SEMINAR ON THINKING-BASED LEARNING

Week I: February 18–22, 2008

Goals for Participants in the Seminars on Thinking-Based Learning

  • Participants will develop an understanding of the latest work, both research-based and practical, on integrating instruction in skillful thinking into the content curriculum, and on assessing students’ thinking abilities.

  • Participants will apply relevant research about instruction in skillful thinking and the assessment of skillful thinking to curriculum design issues and assessment needs in their own educational context.


Week I: Developing A Thinking-based Curriculum

Topics

  • Designing thinking-skill curricular objectives that can guide both classroom instruction and assessment.

  • Standards for thinking-based classroom instruction.

  • Three models for infusing instruction in thinking skills into the content curriculum across subject areas and grade levels / college programs.

  • Building techniques for developing students’ self-directed practice of skillful thinking in a curriculum.

These seminars are designed for educators who have had some previous experience with teaching thinking skills infused into content instruction. These seminars will draw on material from the new book, Thinking-Based Learning, by

R. Swartz, A. Costa, B. Beyer, R. Reagan, and B. Kallick (Norwood, MA: Christopher Gordon Publishing Co. Forthcoming, 2007)

Each participant will receive a copy of one infusion Lesson-Design Handbook and a pre-publication copy of Thinking-Based Learning. Graduate credits will be available for those interested.


Fees: $695 for each seminar.
Books and materials are included in the fee.
A NCTT certificate of accomplishment will be given to all participants at the completion of the each seminar.
Graduate credits are available for an additional fee.
